Lab Report

My sinuses have been problematic for as long as I can remember.   I snored like a freight train until my abcessed upper bicuspids were extracted.  I have taken half a 12-hour sudafed every morning since 1994.   It would relieve my nasal congestion and give me a bit of mental clarity.

I have tried every other nasal remedy I could think of.   I have been experimenting with nose spray recipes for years.

Since I have been using the fabulous toothpaste, my sinuses have cleared.  I can breathe freely.   My nose doesn't drip.  Even at night when the air conditioner is on.

I haven't taken a Sudafed in two weeks.

There are not enough curse words in any language to explain my thoughts on this.

Further Adventures with Microbial Whak-a-Mole

On the topic of Efficacy

I have been prescribed many "solutions" to my problems by health professionals.   None of them have actually worked.   When I mentioned that fact to doctors, they told me I was non-compliant somehow.   That I needed to try harder and longer.

  • I tried their stupid low-fat dieting until I weighed over 200 pounds.
  • Later, a doctor "severed our professional relationship" because I was on the Atkins Diet.
  • Dentists have told me to "floss more" for 50 years.

The interesting thing is, I have found products that work within a few minutes.

I knew the curcumin gummies were helping my mouth within three days.

I knew the curcumin soap was effective as soon as I got out of the shower.

I knew the curcumin cream was effective within seconds of putting it on my fingernails.

I knew the curcumin-tea trea solution worked even better within 15 minutes.

And I have now found a toothpaste that reverses my periodontal symptoms in five minutes.  And it costs five fuckin dollars!!!

Somebody please tell me why big brand toothpastes do not contain any anti-microbial chemicals.   They say that fluoride fights cavities, but it doesn't.  It strengthens the enamel, it does not kill germs. That is really quite inefficient.

With the knowlege that the mouth is filled with all kinds of bacteria and viruses and fungi that interact with eachother to create resistant biofilms, I looked for toothpaste that would address that issue.   I wanted one with curcumin and tea tree oil.  Together they inhibit Strep mutans, Strep pyogenes, P. gingivalis, Prevotella species,  Helicobacter pylori, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Papilloma virus (HPV), Influenza virus, Candida albicans, Staph aureus- incuding MRSA, and Pneumonia.   There were a few of them, but most had ingredients I didn't want, or were entirely too foamy.

This one is a winner.  And it's all natural too.

It dissolves the plaque and shrinks the inflammation like nothing else ever has.  I can actually clean my gumline without a scraper.  It's the first time in decades my ears aren't ringing.  I hate the mint flavor and I use it anyway.  I actually WANT to brush my teeth, that's unbelievable...

The only complaint I have is it dries out the mouth.  Use a very small amount.  Smaller than a pea.  Rinse well.  You will need a beverage and some lip balm afterwards.  The ability to wipe debris out of the pockets with your tongue makes it worth it, though.   It's amazing.

Surfing the Collagen Matrix

The Endocrine Society has renamed PCOS to PMOS.   Apparently this reclassification took 10 years.

PCOS is a condition which causes women's eggs to have thickened and malformed collagen wrappers, resulting in problems with ovulation and fertility.   It is also frequently comorbid with insulin resistance or diabetes....

The enzyme LOX, which is crucial for cross-linking collagen, is frequently overexpressed in PCOS

P. gingivalis infection significantly upregulates host LOX-1 expression in endothelial cells and macrophages.

Porphyromonas gingivalis may interfere with conception in women

I think the way this works is:   The bacteria infect the uterine area.  Collagen is destroyed by 2 of the Gingipains produced by P. gingivalis.  Collagen in the area of infection will be degraded into fragments which then collect in the matrix.

edit: here's an idea...

Thanks for the evidence

Scientists found the hidden switch fueling Alzheimer’s brain inflammation

Scientists at Scripps Research have uncovered a molecular “switch” that appears to fuel the damaging brain inflammation seen in Alzheimer’s disease. They found that a protein called STING becomes chemically altered in a way that keeps the brain’s immune system stuck in overdrive, harming the connections between nerve cells.

Porphyromonas gingivalis induces an inflammatory response via the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in a periodontitis mouse model

Our results demonstrate that the cGAS-STING signaling pathway may be one of the key mechanisms crucial for the P. gingivalis-induced inflammatory response that leads to chronic periodontitis.

As I was saying

Scientists discover why Alzheimer’s risk hits women so much harder

No they didn't.

Most of this is caused by the difference in men's and women's immune response.

Their  list of "risk factors" are merely other (very profitable) manifestations of the infections that cause Alzheimer's.

Men have suppressed immune systems due to anabolic steroids like testosterone.

Women have increased immune responses triggered by estrogen.

Since Alzheimer's is caused by a surplus of immune response molecules clogging up the brain...women will have more pathology.  The same imbalance applies to narcolepsy patients.

(I suppressed my ovaries with progesterone birth control from the time I was 16 until I was 50.   I participated in the clinical trials for all the forms:  pills, shots, and implants.  Looking back, it's surely one of the reasons I'm still alive.   Why I wasn't institutionalized.  Why I didn't just wither and die when I was 42 and the dementia set in.)

Brain scans reveal a shocking difference between psychopaths and other people

Scientists have uncovered a striking brain difference linked to psychopathy: people with psychopathic traits were found to have a striatum — a brain region tied to reward, motivation, and decision-making — that was about 10% larger on average than those without such traits. Using MRI scans and psychological assessments on 120 participants, researchers connected this enlarged brain region to thrill-seeking, impulsive behavior, and a stronger drive for stimulation.

One search later:

Group A Streptococcus (strep throat), share molecular structures similar to proteins found in human brain cells. Following an infection, the body's immune system creates antibodies that mistakenly target the basal ganglia (which includes the striatum).

Antibodies from children with PANDAS bind specifically to striatal cholinergic interneurons and alter their activity

See the Vortex

Dear Health Professionals:   Get a fucking clue.

Please watch the first fifteen seconds of this video.   Please observe this woman's most glaring symptom.   It's not sleepiness.

Her mouth and face never stop twitching   She rubs her lips.  The only thing she says is "Heavy".

H sounds come from inflammation of the lower molars.

V sounds soothe the lower incisors.

I don't even have to see her teeth to know that they are septic.

She can barely stay awake or sleep lying down anymore.   She has an acute toothache!

More fun for me

Astrocytic metabolic control of Orexin activity in the lateral hypothalamus regulates sleep and wake architecture

In conclusion, our results provide evidence for the importance of the astrocytic lactate shuttle in regulating sustained wakefulness. By using cell-specific downregulation of MCTs, we demonstrate that astrocytes are a major contributor to lactate export into the extracellular environment where it is available for uptake by orexinergic neurons, modulating their activity and ultimately regulating wakefulness.

My Favorite Researcher

How this whole thing started:

Back in the 2010’s, I used to hang out on Narcolepsy forums and post my ideas.   A student named Christina asked to write to me about dieting.  She had noticed that we fell asleep after eating. And the gluten effect too.   We were both amazed by how much better we felt when we didn’t eat at all.

We tried gluten free-ketogenic diets.   It was the first experiment.  It was the first biohack.

We went to conferences and watched people fall asleep after eating.   It wasn’t just us.

She went to grad school and became a metabolic researcher.   She’s a professor now.  She studies orexin and intestines.  In tiny little zebrafish guts.

She has just published a paper validating that first hypothesis.

Orexinergic responses to environmental stressors in the zebrafish gut

Basically:  Orexin levels increase during fasting.  Orexin levels decrease after eating   And it occurs in the intestinal wall as well as the brain.

Cha Ching.   Bravo.   Way to go, Professor Graves!!

I’m glad I lived long enough to read that on the internet.

And see it indexed in PubMed.   That’s my freaky kind of fun.

Quickie Hypothesis

The Evolutionary Benefit of Insulin Resistance

It is much more difficult to starve us.   Almost everything we eat turns to fat and becomes long term energy storage.

We are the ones who survive the famines, eating nothing but potatoes or rice or bread.

Practical Zombipathy

Further Adventures with Microbial Whak-a-Mole.

Today I am going to discuss foot and nail fungus.

The fungus can create a biofilm with PG and they both become more resistant, so you have to treat them both, or you will continue reinfecting yourself.

With that knowledge I have concocted a foot soak that seems effective.

I actually feel like I’m walking on someone elses’ legs…

Here’s my recipe for a small batch.

8 oz /200 ml  liquid castille soap.    I don’t know if there is any difference between brands.   It probably doesn’t matter, it is just to dissolve the oils.

10 drops Curcumin extract.

10 drops Tea tree oil

Mix well.

Use 1 tsp/ 15ml of the soap  per 2 cups/0.5 l  of water in your basin.  It wil not be foamy.   You only have to cover the bottom of your feet and make sure it gets on your toenails and in between your toes.   I have a toothbrush I use to do my toes.

Edit:   5 minutes seems to be enough and causes less itching.

Rinse your feet with clean water.  Dry them thoroughly.   Put on clean socks.   Cotton or wool are best.

Don’t forget to soak all your metal nail tools too.   Disinfect your tub and shower curtain with bleach.

Get a new pumice stone in this shape.  You will be able to grind off your calluses.

I've been doing it every other day.

There is something about the soap and water carrier that permeates the skin more than lotion.

Curcumin inhibits PG and seems to open water channels in the skin cells.

Tea tree oil inhibits fungus and viruses.

For further healing and itch relief, use lidocaine cream on problematic spots.  It’s very antimicrobial and also numbs the skin.  It’s in the burn relief or arthritis section.    I like the ones that are “non-greasy”.

Some moments in the Matrix

Here's my lastest rambling screed.

Auntie Zombie adds some thoughts

It really has been a glaring omission that I didn't have anything about sleep or eating disorders.   Sorry about that.

I still have plans for a discussion on Sexual dimorphism in immune responses.   I wish someone would write that for me....

Good Article

New review.   Some chemistry jargon, but the main points are worth reading.  Has a section on Astrocytes, oh my.

Porphyromonas gingivalis: a potential trigger of neurodegenerative disease

Cortisol Exposure leads to Astrocyte dysfunction in Major Depression

Yeah.   That's what this experiment showed.

Chronic cortisol differentially impacts stem cell-derived astrocytes from major depressive disorder patients

Using the 7-day exposure paradigm, we studied the specific impact of chronic cortisol exposure in MDD patient-derived astrocytes with whole transcriptome analyses. We discovered uniquely disrupted pathways in MDD astrocytes exposed to chronic cortisol. Genes involved in GPCR ligand binding, ion transport, and synaptic transmission were uniquely affected by chronic stress in MDD astrocytes, notably the serotonin receptor HTR1B, the neurotrophic factor GDNF, and glutamate receptors GRM1 and GRM8. We have generated a novel in vitro chronic stress-like paradigm and provide evidence for the unique regulation of astrocyte genes in MDD.
